Awangarda Foundation
The Full Story
About Us
We are a group of medics providing assistance in Ukraine from the first days of the invasion. Our first ambulance entered Ukraine on March 10, 2022. In the initial phase of the war – still as an informal group - we focused around the MedEvacuation Poland operation, during which we evacuated the wounded and sick from Ukraine to Poland – children, women, and men, civilians and soldiers. Initially to a special evacuation train organized by the Polish State, and later to evacuation planes arriving in Rzeszow. Simultaneously, members of our group started providing assistance directly in the areas affected by the war in eastern Ukraine – in besieged Kharkiv and Donbas. Since October 2022, we have been collaborating with the MedRota of the 5th Assault Brigade fighting in the hottest spots of Donbas (Bakhmut, Chasiv Yar, Torets). These actions are carried out on a voluntary basis - we do not have a contract with the Ukrainian armed forces or any systematic funding for our activities. We perform MedEvac (Medical Evacuation) and CaseVac (Casualty Evacuation) tasks and work hand in hand at the stabilization point, supporting Ukrainians with our skills and experience. We also carry out medical transports for civilians in need of such transportation.

In the night from May 2 to May 3, 2023, two Iranian drones fell on the medical base where we were sleeping – in a place where a medicine warehouse was organized and where we provided assistance to the wounded and sick. Five of our medic friends died in that attack. After this incident, we decided to formalize the group's activities and establish the Awangarda Foundation. The foundation operates with volunteers – doctors, nurses, paramedics, and individuals who have completed specialized medical courses. They travel to Ukraine on a rotational basis during their free time from professional duties. Most of the Awangarda volunteers are Poles, but not exclusively. Citizens of other countries also participate in our Foundation: USA, Latvia, England (UK), Belarus, France, Belgium. In November 2023, the President of Poland recognized our activities in eastern Ukraine and awarded 9 of our members with medals.
